I thought I would take some time to educate some of you'z about working from home. Motivation: most people who I tell I work from home instantly want to know how they can work at home too because they think it is so wonderful.

The home office is by far the most economical way to work. If you are like me, (on a budget) you have to keep your overhead as low as possible because earnings are usually inconsistent. This may mean giving up that large office with the big clean window that overlooks a pond in Innsbrook for a far less glamorous work space ~home. Turning profits comes faster if you work at home because you are not paying rent, or a receptionist, or paying 4.00 a gallon for gas to get there.

Let’s look at this from a different angle. Working full time out of your house is an entirely different experience than working in an office setting. People who are unhappy at their current jobs, or dislike some co workers, or gets road rage'y will think working from home seems wonderful. There IS something great about not having to leave the house on rainy mornings. I can just roll out of bed, and I’m at work. Actually, I can just roll over and grab my laptop by my bed and I’m at work. But, its hard to "leave" work. Say, I wake up in the middle of the night, I grab the laptop, surf, work, surf, and try to go back to sleep.

Thankfully the idea of working from home is finally getting some respect from the general public. Of course there will be people that think, just because you work from home, you are not legitimately making a living. I get comments from people complaining about their day and then think I don’t understand because, I "don’t go to a job". I used to defend myself. It’s a waste of breath. Usually these people work for someone else and are NOT entrepreneurs and they do not understand or they are scared of RISK. You will need to be a risk taker, self-motivated, and open minded. In most cases you needn't be a team player.

It takes many personality traits to be able to work at home. Some people need structure and instructions. I don’t. Ok, I do, but I seem to be doing fine. TO DO LISTS are a must. Most successful people have had to make sacrifices to reach their goals. To work from home, a major drawback is isolation. There will be days when you might not see or speak to anyone outside your immediate family. You can become so engrossed in your work you do not notice this. But it will take its toll on you if you are not aware. This may NOT be a good career choice for the co-dependant type.

I have enjoyed working from home and it offers a feeling of accomplishment and a scary kind of peace of mind knowing that your success IS entirely in your own hands. I love it. its not for every one, but for now, it works for me.
